A Sweet Start to the New Year: High-Protein Rosh Hashana Dip

Written by

Rosh Hashana, the Jewish New Year, is a time to gather with family, reflect on the year that has passed, and welcome in the year ahead with hope, gratitude, and joy. One of my favorite traditions is eating something sweet to symbolize a sweet year to come. Apples dipped in honey are classic, but this year I decided to give the tradition a high-protein, Talk Macros to Me twist.

This creamy dip is packed with protein from Fage 2% Greek yogurt and Kalona low-fat cottage cheese, balanced with the tart crunch of Honeycrisp apples and the jewel-like sweetness of pomegranate arils. And because no new year should be without a little spice, I finish it off with a drizzle of Trader Joe’s hot honey.

Not only does this dip taste like a celebration, but it’s also a nourishing way to honor tradition while supporting your goals. It’s light, balanced, and full of flavor—perfect for sharing around the holiday table.

The Recipe

1 cup Fage 2% Greek yogurt

1 cup low-fat Kalona cottage cheese

1/4 cup pomegranate arils

Drizzle of Trader Joe’s hot honey

Honeycrisp apple slices for dipping

Directions:

1. In a small blender or food processor, blend together the Greek yogurt and cottage cheese until smooth.

2. Spoon into a bowl and top with pomegranate arils and a drizzle of hot honey.

3. Serve with crisp apple slices and enjoy a dip that’s symbolic, satisfying, and so simple.

As we welcome this new year, may every bite remind us of sweetness, abundance, and fresh beginnings. L’shana tova—here’s to a happy and healthy year ahead!
