Ingredients

For the Whipped Cottage Cheese

● 16 oz (454 g) Good Culture 2% cottage cheese

● 1 tbsp fat-free feta crumbles

● 1 tsp fresh lemon zest

● ⅛ tsp garlic powder

● Freshly cracked black pepper, to taste

For the Savory Cranberry-Rosemary Compote

● 1 cup (100 g) fresh cranberries

● 2 tbsp (20 g) finely minced red onion

● 1 tsp extra-virgin olive oil

● 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar

● 1 tbsp honey

● ¼ cup water

● 1 small sprig fresh rosemary

● Pinch of salt

For Garnish

● 2 tbsp (approximately 15 g) chopped pecans

● Fresh rosemary sprigs

For Serving

● Toasted baguette crostini

● Gluten-free crackers

● Endive leaves or your favorite fresh vegetables

Instructions

1. Prepare the Cranberry Compote

Heat the olive oil in a small saucepan over medium-low heat.

Add the finely minced red onion and sauté for approximately 4–5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until softened.

Add the cranberries, balsamic vinegar, honey, water, rosemary sprig, and a pinch of salt.

Bring to a gentle simmer and cook for 8–12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cranberries begin to burst and the mixture thickens into a chunky compote.

Remove the rosemary sprig and allow the cranberry mixture to cool completely. The compote will continue to thicken as it cools.

2. Whip the Cottage Cheese

Add the cottage cheese, fat-free feta, lemon zest, garlic powder, and freshly cracked black pepper to a small food processor.

Process until smooth and creamy, stopping occasionally to scrape down the sides.

Taste and adjust the seasoning as desired.

Transfer to the refrigerator for approximately 20–30 minutes to chill and firm up slightly.

3. Toast the Pecans

Add the chopped pecans to a dry skillet over medium-low heat.

Toast for 2–3 minutes, stirring frequently, until fragrant.

Remove from heat and allow to cool.

4. Assemble the Dip

Spread the chilled whipped cottage cheese into a shallow serving bowl, using the back of a spoon to create gentle swoops and a slight well in the center.

Spoon the cooled cranberry-rosemary compote over the center, leaving some whipped cheese visible around the edges.

Sprinkle with toasted pecans and garnish with fresh rosemary.

Serve chilled with your favorite crackers, crostini, or fresh vegetables.

Tips for the Best Cranberry-Rosemary Dip

Fresh or Frozen Cranberries Both Work

Fresh cranberries are a wonderful seasonal ingredient, but frozen cranberries work beautifully in this recipe, too.

If using frozen cranberries, there’s no need to thaw them first. Simply allow a few extra minutes of cooking time if necessary.

Keep the Cranberry Compote Chunky

As the cranberries cook, they’ll begin to burst and release their juices.

I recommend leaving some of the berries intact rather than cooking everything down into a smooth sauce. The result is a beautiful, rustic topping with plenty of texture.

Don’t Add Liquid to the Cottage Cheese

For this recipe, we’re looking for a thick, creamy whipped consistency that holds its shape when plated.

A small food processor works particularly well. Blend until smooth, but avoid adding water or milk, which can thin the mixture.

Let Everything Cool Before Assembling

Allow the cranberry compote to cool completely before spooning it over the whipped cottage cheese.

Warm compote can soften the cheese and cause the topping to spread.

Chilling the whipped cottage cheese also helps create that thick, spreadable consistency.

Toast Those Pecans!

Toasting pecans enhances their nutty flavor and adds a wonderful crunch.

Sprinkle them on just before serving to keep their texture.

What to Serve with Cranberry-Rosemary Whipped Cottage Cheese Dip

One of my favorite things about this recipe is how versatile it is for entertaining.

For a traditional appetizer spread, serve it alongside toasted baguette crostini or your favorite crackers.

For a gluten-free option, I love Simple Mills almond flour crackers or toasted gluten-free baguette slices.

You can also serve it with endive leaves, cucumber slices, or crisp apple and pear slices for a fresh, slightly sweet contrast.

For a holiday gathering, arrange a variety of dippers around the bowl so everyone can enjoy it their own way.

Make-Ahead Tips

This is a wonderful appetizer to prepare ahead of time, especially during the busy holiday season.

Cranberry Compote: Prepare up to three days in advance and refrigerate in an airtight container.

Whipped Cottage Cheese: Prepare up to one day in advance and store covered in the refrigerator.

Toasted Pecans: Toast ahead of time and store separately in an airtight container.

When you’re ready to serve, spread the whipped cheese into your serving bowl, spoon the cranberry topping over the center, and finish with toasted pecans and fresh rosemary.

Keep the assembled dip refrigerated until serving, and refrigerate leftovers promptly.

Why Cottage Cheese Works So Well

If you’ve been following along with my recipes, you know how much I enjoy finding new ways to incorporate cottage cheese into everyday meals.

It’s an excellent source of protein, incredibly versatile, and blends beautifully into both sweet and savory recipes.

Whipping cottage cheese transforms the texture into a creamy, spreadable base. Adding just a little feta, fresh lemon zest, garlic powder, and black pepper gives it a savory flavor that complements the cranberry compote.

The combination makes a beautiful holiday appetizer that also contributes protein to your entertaining spread.
